Celebrating Girls’ Education

On Saturday 26 September, alumnae of Edgbaston High School gathered at the prestigious Army and Navy Club on Pall Mall for the final event of the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The turnout was fantastic and a true testament to the strength of the friendships forged at EHS, with Old Girls travelling from near and far to celebrate this remarkable milestone. Guests heard from an inspiring panel of alumnae, including HH Judge Sybil Thomas, anaesthetist Leyla Turkoglu, First Officer Nadia Ismail, sports personality Naomi Church, marketer and actor Notza Howell-Jones, and musician Charlotte Clemson. The event also featured special messages from Dame Sally Davies, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge and former EHS Old Girl, Sir Andy Street, and Philip Britton MBE, Vice Chair of HMC 2026-27.

Opened by Mrs Clare Marco and attended by former Headmistresses Dr Ruth Weeks and Miss Elizabeth Mullenger, the afternoon was a fitting celebration of girls’ education. Hearing first-hand from alumnae about their achievements and career journeys was both inspiring and deeply moving. While many spoke warmly of the foundations laid during their time at EHS, it was equally clear that the perseverance, ambition and determination they embody, values long championed by the school, have been instrumental in shaping their success and helping them reach the very top of their chosen fields.

To conclude the evening, guests joined together in a spirited rendition of the School Song. It was wonderful to see so many remembering the words (for the most part!), and what better way to end such a special occasion than with the line: “There is no school in all the land to rank with EHS, sir.”
