Our Story & Archive

Welcome to the EHS Archive. Here you will find the stories, faces and memories that have shaped our school - from trailblazing alumnae who have walked our halls to the moments that defined generations of young women.

Whether you are an alumna reconnecting with the past or simply curious about our journey, explore our growing collection.

150 Years of EHS

Since 1875, Edgbaston High School has been at the forefront of girls’ education. As Birmingham’s oldest independent girls’ school, we have spent the last 150 years empowering young women to learn fearlessly, grow with confidence, and shape their own futures without limits.

This landmark anniversary is a chance to celebrate our journey – the bold decisions that led to our founding, the many milestones we have achieved since, and the extraordinary girls who have been part of our story. From our earliest days to now, our mission has stayed the same: to provide an outstanding education in an environment where girls are encouraged to lead, to question, and to thrive.

Notable Alumnae

EHS has seen generations of bold, trailblazing women who have gone on to make their mark in every field imaginable. From pioneers in science and medicine to leaders in business, the arts and public sector, our alumnae embody the fearless ambition and integrity we nurture at EHS.

Discover the inspiring women who have shaped our legacy.

Our Headmistresses

From our founding in 1875 to the present day, EHS has been guided by visionary women who have shaped not just our school, but the future of girls' education. Each headmistress brought her own strengths - whether leading us through wartime, championing science when it was seen as a 'male domain', introducing overseas trips and vibrant extra-curricular opportunities, or ensuring the arts flourished alongside academics.
